Do Redo - in the service of handicraft
Do Redo - It's about recycling--make new things out of old!
Do Redo - Looks for inspiration from tradition and makes it fashionable
Do Redo - Do and re-do. Don't give up!
We want to show how easy and fun it is to make something with your own hands by sewing, knitting, embrodering and crocheting. Combine traditional handicraft techniques that have been used for thousands of years with recycling and fashion. Create something that is truly your own-something personal and unique.
Relax the rules and "musts". Seize hold of the desire and just get started, without thinking so hard. What you create will always be something, even if it isn't what you first expected.
Do Redo is also a protest against society's tendency toward conspicuous consumption. Take a worn out wool sweater, wash it in hot water, grab a pair of scissors and give it new life! You can find inspiration anywhere-on the street, in a fasionable boutique or on the Web. And don't forget to look in museums, where you can find a treasury of old textiles to inspire you.
We think handicraft can change the world, or at least make it a more pleasant place. Handicraft is good for the soul. It gives energy, stimulates the imagination, enhances self-esteem and makes one feel satisfied and happy.
The three components of Do Redo
Exhibits and workshops
Designers Katarina Brieditis and Katarina Evans have created an exhibit about recycling textiles, knitting, crocheting and embroidery. They know the art of slaughtering a sweater and giving it new life in a completely different and exciting form. They want to inspire new ways of thinking about knitting and embroidery, their areas of expertise. In conjunction with the exhibit, Brieditis and Evans hold workshops.
Do-it-yourself kits
Östergötlands Ullspinneri together with designers Katarina Brieditis and Katarina Evans have developed new softer wools and a unique color chart for Do Redo. The kits contain simple patterns, materials and instructions on how to knit and embroider to get you started!
Do Redo: The Art of Slaughtering a Sweater
That is the Do Redo book, and it's packed with tips and ideas from the Do Redo designers. In addition to recycling - how to make new things out of old wool sweaters - the book provides basic instructions on how to knit, embroider and crochet. Fashion reporter Anna-Stina Lindén Ivarsson wrote the text and chose the pictures and references to current trends and yesterday's fashion. Published by Alfabeta Publishers, Stockholm, Sweden.
